Abstract

The use of combustion Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is becoming more prevalent in the development of combustion technology. For this CFD-based tool to play a more reliable and practical role in the analysis and design of real-world combustion systems, various essential elements enabling high fidelity, fast turnaround, and acceptable costs must be adequately addressed. This presentation outlines these multi-disciplinary elements. The development and application of the National Combustion Code (NCC) at NASA Glenn Research Center is used as an example to indicate the general status of comprehensive combustion modeling and simulation; as well as to highlight the impact of high performance computing on computational engineering.
